Homemade Taco Seasoning

It’s time for a confession: my name is Laine and I love taco seasoning. I put it on EVERYTHING! Beans, fish, eggs, in soup, chili, salad dressing- seriously everything! But I don’t love all of the preservatives in the pre-made packages. Here is an ingredient list of one of the most common taco seasoning packets here in Canada.

When I looked online I found thousands of taco seasoning recipes that you can make at home with spices you probably already have. Below is the ratio of spices that I like the best. You can make this in bulk and keep it in a jar for whenever you need it for a recipe. I personally like the flavour better, but for some it’s not quite right! You’ll have to try it for yourself and see if it works for you and your household.

Taco Seasoning
1 spoon, less than 5 minutes, good for 1 or 2 recipes

What you need:

  • 1.5 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

-Mix it all together and use for whatever recipe calls for taco spice or use to season for random dishes like I do!

It’s that easy!

Please let me know if you try this recipe, I’d love to hear your feedback! You can e-mail me at laine@guliashgirl.com or find me on Facebook!
